Albert Pujols card not in database
Psa sending this card back to me as ungradeable/not in database. 1 shop owner said its a rare buyback auto thats probably just too obscure in nature that it's not in the database... also offered $800 for it. I dont wish to sell a card i know nothing about.
Can anyone shed more light on this card? Was it a buyback? How was it re released "random pack insert, redemption, replacement offer for missing redemptions, etc"? Should I attempt to get it graded another way or entered into the database....or just sell it as is? And of course what is a decent value on it? The card is currently being mailed back from psa and I should have it tomorrow or Thursday...my only concern is would psa have broken the seal on it?

Welcome to the boards!
GREAT card!
I see its a "1 of 1"! PSA doesn't grade 1 of 1's.
I would say it could be worth MUCH more than $800.00 to the right Pujols collector!
its numbered to 549 on the back. Looks like it could be a buy back but usually when they tape it shut, it is labeled with the manufacturers name. Where did you get the card from? To me, that auto does not look legit, but I am not an expert.
I can see the 1/1 on the front being a problem. I also wondered about the authenticity of the autograph.
it's not an official Topps auto so they will not grade the card, I believe. You can send it in for auto authentication and auto grade but they won't put the "2006 Topps Chrome Black Refractor" on the flip. I believe they will just put it as "Trading card".
Looks off to me as well.
If not authentic then its nothign more than a card with writing on it.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)
The auto looks very sketchy.... I own a bunch and that one definitely looks off.

Welcome Chad.
I'm no auto expert and Pujols' signatures are all over the place but that one looks off to me. I'm in agreement with others on this one buddy.
Unique items not listed in any availabe price guides will ALWAYS get kicked back- no doubt this one was just immediately rejected
The Topps buyback auto authentication sticker on the reverse can be looked up is step one. Did it match the database for the card or auto ? Is the sticker authentic or is it displaying characteristics of fake ones ? Proof it was produced and pack inserted is also then required if it passes the sticker verification. Its not listed in any online OPG , but those lists are manufacturer supplied , and Topps always mails it in on accuracy ( meaning lists were always inaccurate because manufacturers like Topps aways wanted peope to dig into sets so they'd have to learn more about Topps products).
The work proving or disproving production and distribution on this one would probably require more than a few hours. No grading service is going to expend staff time doing it unless that customer paid them at the highest fee levels . If they do anything its basic checks of available price guides and lists. They kick it back and tell people to do the work and come back and prove it was produced. If it wasn't pack inserted, and it was even more unique like a show produced or special event produced- well time and labor intensive. Again no grading service will expend that unnecessary time
My suggestion is find someone to look up the sticker on back for step one. If it doesn't match the database- dead right there. If it does match the database for Pujols then dig into production / distribution proof. I see alot of time proving its existence required for this one. I'd have taken that offer with a 'sold as is" cavaet and ran
