1971 DDO - worth getting it graded

Hi everyone,

Fairly new to collecting here and wondering if this is one that I should get graded. it seems in pretty good shape and from what I read on PCGS for values, it looks like it might have some worth. Please let me know what you think!

Have you compared it to the known examples on Varity Vista and found an exact match?

How heve you ruled out MD (mechanical/machine doubling)?

    ;)

I'm definitely new to this and don't see an exact match (at least I don't think I do) on Variety Vista. It looks like the opposite direction of the first set of Stage A photos in DD0-001. To my eye it looks both layers of the number and "Liberty" are raised and not just machine doubled or smooshed looking.

Great find, but looks like machine doubling.

  • Thanks both for the valuable advice!

    Good; that is correct.

Your coin has very clear machine doubling and is worth 1 cent. Searching for doubled dies is futile until you first learn to recognize machine doubling.

As one who is new to collecting, you are not ready to submit coins for grading.

Thanks for that, I'm trying to learn how to recognize it. Maybe it is futile, but it's still fun for me. I'll do some more reading about how best to know the difference. I appreciate your advice!
