Where do new posters come from?

@PCGS_Moderator do you ask some sort of "Where did you hear about us?" question when new users sign up? And if not, would you consider adding that?

Given several recent new posters, I wonder if they're coming from a consistent source that has incorrect info that could be revised...

As a relatively new member, I am thinking about just forgetting about the forum. A week ago I generated a post asking about grading. When I submitted I got a response that my submittal was being reviewed before being posted. I couldn't see anything controversial in what I had written but okay.

Nothing. So a few days ago I tried to repost and got the same response that it is being reviewed. I immediately PMed the moderator asking why. That was a couple of days ago and have had response.

    I give up.

That's a forum bug. Happens occasionally. There is no review process, the post is just lost.

All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

It has happened twice in a row seperated by a week. That is not "happens occasionaly" to me. It is not a bug, it is a problem.

@Raptor48 . that is something that does happen. I have been around here about 7 or 8 years but do remember the pause on posting thing. you have a35 behind your name so I think (?) that means you have responded that many times or some such thing. I think what I did back then was log out and back in 2 or 3 times. Hope it works out for you. james

When it happens to you again—
Go to categories at the top of the page,
Go to misc at the bottom of the page,
Make a post in the testing forum—it will work,
Copy and paste the post from the testing forum thread into the new thread.

Thanks for the idea Creg but it didn't seem to work. I got that same message about it will be reviewed before being posted. Also I have rebooted my PC (Windows 11) and re-logged in.

  • CregCreg Posts: 1,476 ✭✭✭✭✭

I’m sorry, it’s an intermittent thing as you can tell because you can post now. That bit worked for me yesterday.

It does not seem intermittent at all to me. The problem does not seem to be associated with posting to someone else's discussion as I am now. It is me trying to make an original post. It is discouraging to a relatively new member.

I’m sorry for the trouble you’re having. It happens to me, too, from time to time. I don’t know the cause but on several occasions, it appeared to be due to my inclusion of a link, email address or quotes in my messages.

Thanks MFeld. I just looked at my potential post and it doesn't have any links or email addresses in it. I did find a location where I used quote marks to reflect I meant it exactly as written on a label and I will try removing them.

  • Raptor48Raptor48 Posts: 49 ✭✭✭

I removed the quote marks - made no difference. I got the message: "Your discussion will appear after it is approved." quote marks are intentional.

I apologize to everyone for hijacking the OP's question. But I seem to have tried everything and really wanted to ask my question about UNC vs MS.

  • hey, we do ask people. I have a queue of 7 applicants right now, actually, that I have to accept/deny. we get up to 30/day and lots of them are spam, so we try our best to detect that -- but some spam bots and sources of misinformation play the part well and then end up being spam unfortunately

can you let me know what you're referring to in terms of the new posters? as always, feel free to DM me or report the posts so we can get it taken care of

So now we have three identical posts by member @Raptor48, @pcgs_social please remove at least two of these, this is ridiculous.
