Is this the 1st time PCGS Price Guide

shows a coin lower than the PM value in the coin?

I was looking at some of my uncle's raw coins (Morgans and Peace) and just use PCGS Price guide to get an idea...

Some of these are XF/AU and some are MS (63/64). The XF/AU show ~$68 in the PCGS PG.
Yet, silver content is ~$73
1878, 1881o, 1881-s, 1885, 1886, 1896o, 1921 pds, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925

So, yes, I do know that PCGS PG is for items in PCGS plastic...there is a cost to doing that (shipping, grading fees, etc).

Yet, raw value is $73. As you can see from the dates, pretty common. Some, in MS, are worth $100-$200+, on the right day, at the right time, to the right person maybe, but the XF/AU ones...? LOL

I have no point with this, it's just the 1st time I have seen a coin with precious metal value (90% silver) listed BELOW it's actual content value.

Kind of neat as he also has a 1931-S lincoln in AU (BN, some mellowing/toning), raw, and a 1921 peace dollar raw...1921 PD are harder for me to grade due to strike and not being my series....was cool to see it in the album.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Likely yes. The PCGS price guide isn’t linked to an algorithm that fluctuates with spot; thus, given the extreme volatility in spot, this will happen. When it does, it means your coin of interest is effectively nothing more than bullion in the current market.

Technically, 90% is not trading at full melt. Upstate, for example, is SELLING MS60-62 slabbed Peace $s at $71. They are buying pre-21 Morgans in MS60-62 at $77.

I’ve got some first strike MS 70 $50 SP gold eagles. The price guide lists them for :open_mouth:
    $3600
