3 loupe magnifier

seatedlib3991seatedlib3991 Posts: 1,612 ✭✭✭✭✭

My rescue kitten Eddy-G has stolen my 3 loupe magnifier. All hope is lost. Does anyone know what name and description to use at Amazon for the best version out there? James

My go to is this: https://ebay.us/m/w1k0SV
    Belomo triplet 10x
Not a 3 loupe but high quality for the price

    Many happy BST transactions

@cheezhead . so it triples to become a 10X, is that what you mean?

I should also mention I have a neck cord from LSCC and would like one that can be attached to it. James

No. There are 3 lenses for the one magnification. Higher quality image no distortion.

Get yourself a 3x6x =9x two lens combo from Zeiss
Top end quality , NGC graders uses this one.
I think PCGS graders dont have a standard lens now??
Though years ago they used a 5X Eschenbach, metal covers.
    a very good lens.
David Hall use to grade /examine with a Bausch and Lomb slide 5X, black plastic case.
    inexpensive.

does anyone know what the standard grading lens at PCGS is now?
    What is their policy?

@krueger . My problem there is that I need stronger magnification. i spend way more time identifying varieties than grading. Drives me nuts at the moment. I have an 1893-S/S Barber dime but need better eyes and mag. to see if it has the third shadow "S". James

I've been using my cellphone with a macro lens. Better for varieties than full on whole coin photography; can't capture large coins.

You need a dissecting stereoscope with variable (zoom) magnification.

@Barberian . The weak link there is me. One chance in five I ever figure out how to use the microscope correctly. Also, I use my magnifiers to look at coins on my computer. I would need the help of all three of my cats to both hold the microscope up to the screen and see the coin. James

I bought this lens/loop (cheep), years ago. Single lens/mag. Lighting, angle and a steady hand will usually do the trick. ;)

This was taken through the plastic of a Proof Set.

They are very easy to operate. The resolution is fantastic. I have a hand-held reading glass for computer screens.
