Hi. I currently have AU58 type examples for the Type 1 and Type 2 gold dollars. I’d like to upgrade both types to MS62 or MS63 (PCGS, NGC, or CACG w/good pix). This would involve me trading in my AU58 + $x for your coin. Let me know if you have anything.

Here are my two I want to upgrade. More pix available.

(I have no idea why this wacky forum software shrinks some pics- it’s annoying.)

I'm not in the market, and my sole $1 gold piece is only AU58 PCGS, like yours, but I will say that your 1852 looks super nice!
I'd rather have that than many lower MS levels I have seen.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Thanks. Food for thought, I suppose.

Rob, if I may be so bold as to use your 1st name, I look at it this way...

If it's a registry game, I get it. I've played it. The higher the grade, the more points.
If it's just for personal enjoyment, then I look at the coin and ask myself (and I learned this on these forums years ago): "Does the coin bring me happiness of owning it when I look at it?"

If the answer is no, then it goes into the "sell when appropriate" list.
If the answer is yes, and I'm not playing registry games with it, then I keep it. It's why I have a number of AU coins, or even XF, instead of higher ones...even in a few areas I do play registry with and can afford the upgrades. I just happen to like the current coins better.

Not tell you how to do your collection, but just giving you an unsolicited thought

And I greatly appreciate it. I’m not in the Registry game, really (except very casually on MyCollect). And I’m satisfied with these two coins.

I just had the thought that all my other US gold is Mint State (with the exception of the two Classic Heads being in XF40 and my $3 piece also being AU58.)

No, I’m outside the Registry camp, but I confess I do still fall into Registry-type thinking.

Thanks again for your candor and wise counsel.
