Selling Sterling Silverware
Hello,
A co-worker mentioned to me today that they have a 12 place setting of sterling silverware and was thinking about selling it given the price of silver and asked how they might go about selling it.
Does anyone know of places that she should contact to sell that offer good prices for sterling silverware?
thanks

coin stores often buy sterling. the big question is how much is a fair offer.
some patterns of silverware is collectible. can't tell you where to look that info up
knives are a special case when selling. get an offer for everything but the knives then discuss the knives. knives are mostly steel blades with hollow handles. determining the value is imprecise
In our shop we weighed out the silver ware less the knives. Since the blades are metal we routinely, and found most of our buyers did this, count them as 1/2 ounce. That was usually pretty close when I would bash the handle to remove the blade.
I buy a lot of sterling flatware, and knife handles average around 1/2 ounce each. Of course there are exceptions, but the majority are in that range.
in or near a big city?

They will offer “pennies on the dollar”
He who knows he has enough is rich.
Yes.
just shop it around to the local places. coin shops will often take it - call ask. since the silver price moves ask what%age of spot they are paying
My LCS buys them but he lowballs also.

That may be. One way to find out is to ask for a quote. One should always get more than one quote.
