SGC, CGC, Beckett, OPC, Inserts other than Jordan and Kobe
Mainly a write up about the pricing, sells, etc of these brands.
1) PSA has the best name in the business, mainly because they were the first ones that started grading. Early on they made deals with several sellers to grade bulk for around $3 apiece. Gave out lots of 10's and then these groups sold the cards. since they were the only ones in town at the time, comparables were decently easy to find. over time the vast quantity of the grading has had mainly it's ups (although one could argue that having 4,200 Griffey jr psa 10's kind of dilutes the card).
2) other grading companies - (SGC, Beckett) - with PSA acquiring them, not sure what their future is, but let's just talk about the here and now. Many less cards graded and many less 10's and 9.5's. let's pick a 1987 Topps barry Bonds psa 10. There are 1,767 10's. There are 137 SGC 10's. So in theory, the SGC could be worth as much or more. But it's not. PSA is worth more, even though most of the pSA 10's are not centered. It's not worth more because they grade harder, Name and comparables drive the bus.
3) Inserts - Jordan and Kobe inserts rock the house. Football inserts in the early 90's have started to go some and then baseball inserts are still a little behind. 1987 Rice 1000 yard should easily be the 2nd highest card for Rice and not even close. But it is close the regular card sells for about $400 and so does the insert card. Pop on the regular card is 415, pop on the insert is 26. If this were a Jordan card, the insert would be worth a fortune. 1987 Jordan psa 10 - regular card sells for around $19,200, the sticker $27,000. makes sense there are only 24 psa 10's of the sticker.
Moving forward if Beckett and SGC stay around look for more comparable prices as more cards are graded and sold, especailly sgc vintage (1999 and older). I don't see a path were they just dissolve the names or the grades. Too many high priced cards at stake. BUt I really don't know what the end game is for PSA buying these companies other than to monopolize them.

You think the 1000 yard Rice is is a better card than the 86 McDonalds card?
is that considered a regular issue? i guess i was thinking more about cards you get in packs from fleer donruss topps etc. But the mCdonalds card would certainly be better.
I think the 1986 McDonald’s Jerry Rice rookie in PSA 9 and PSA 10 is one of the most undervalued in the hobby.
McDonalds printed so many of those is Rice different in that regard than the others.

Topps printed a lot of those too. Seems huge print runs don't really hinder prices.
It's kinda surprising to me how little the 86 Topps Rice is worth. I haven't checked the price history going back 40 years. But, I think it has dropped off. Football in general seems soft with the exception of Tom Brady.
Not sure why you think tons were printed. Anyone with a high grade copy would have submitted to PSA at this point and only 97-134 of each color have ever been subbed. PSA 9 pops range from 23-43 examples and there are only 1-6 PSA 10 of each color. Rice is ranked as the #2 football player of all time behind only Brady. Seems like lots of upside to this hard to find PSA 9 and PSA 10.
Which color do you have?

All of them.
