1876 Seated Liberty Quarter Grading Question

I picked up this 1876 Seated Liberty Quarter and was trying to compare it to CoinFacts, but I am not sure what all is looked at in terms of grading these coins. What potential grade do you think this would come back as if graded. As far as luster, it cartwheels on both sides. (I'm new to the Seated Quarters).

There look to be areas with minor rub on each side so I’d guess AU58. However, I did consider going with MS62.

Edited to add: After seeing the additional obverse image that was posted later, I don’t think the coin would grade above AU55.

The reverse looks stellar and mint, however it does appear to have wear on the obverse. Minimum AU-55.

    Was thinking the same thing.
Almost looks like however it was stored, exposed the obverse to high point friction and an environment that caused toning, while keeping the reverse relatively stable.

I also was thinking it was two different coins, but not because of the difference in color. However, I trust that it is a single coin and, as such, I think it AU. Since you picked it up, you must have paid for it, was the cost of acquisition more consistent with an AU coin or with an MS coin?

    Most likely because of lighting.

I paid well below AU prices. I couldn't see myself dropping a bunch on a series I am not that familiar with.

    My first thought was AU58.

A very nice coin. The reverse looks immaculate but I think there is enough wear on the leg and breast of liberty to put it in the @The_Dinosaur_Man range guess of AU-55. 1876 is one of the most common date coins in the entire series; probably worth about $150 or so which puts it on the fence as far as being worth grading fees. Just my thoughts. congrats. James

Ill go with a 55 as well

With the heavy obv breast wear, I would feel AU55. The reverse has been better kept and displays lack of wear. I would imagine the coin was stored as a BU obv down in a drawer. Each time drawer opened it resulted in wear to high points of obv. JMO

It's hard to tell from the photo if the color change on liberty's cheek, breast, and leg is rub or toning. AU55 if it's rub, MS62 if there's full luster underneath the color change.

Thanks for all of the additional comments.

@Acarroll, ah, now I see what others mean via rub etc.

Here is a different photo of the obverse with different lighting.

Based on the new obverse image, I’ll go with AU55.

I like the look of the new image. That said, I will have to follow Mark and adjust my new grade opinion to AU55.

Very nice. AU55. More wear on hair than you should find on 58.
