Has the premiums for BU silver eagles all evaporated?

erwindocerwindoc Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a set of ASEs that I completed a few years ago. Now with the price of silver over $80 I am giving consideration to selling them. So are there any of them that are worth more than spot now or just silver prices?

    1995-W proof.

For mint state, not really any premium on anything. Even the couple "better dates" don't typically sell for a premium anymore.

Most shops I have recently been to are $2-$3 back on ASE buys, best I have found recently was at -$1. Still better than most .999 but yeah, any premiums as a seller are gone. For regular business strikes 1996 may still net you a little over spot to another collector, doubt any dealers would care though. RGDS!

With BU silver eagles better dates are better dates are due to lower mintages. I haven't seen anyone buying recently but I wager if they were they'd be offering a premium. If you can hold onto them I'd suggest waiting for the markets to stabilize but they will remain chaotic as long as silver is moving rapidly.

So, IF someone were buying them and IF someone couldn't find them and IF silver settled down, you might get a $5 premium. Good to know.

Most reliable source of premium for Eagles is still going to be toning. Before and after the spot price run up.

And there is a significant chance the price could fall as well. Selling for spot at $80 nets more than a sale at $50+$5 (10% premium).

    Heavens no

I would suggest you consult CDN CPG for market value on these.

    2025 ASE MS example

OGP (raw) 110 CPG. 82.57 CDN Bid current spot 79.57

Slabbed pieces especially CACG worth more.

CDN also has values for graded Mexico Libertads (they are mo slouch high grade slabbed tough dates can bring thousands of dollars) and GB Britannias. Many bringing strong retail prices. Very popular among investors. Investors who loaded up on these yr or so ago b4 the bull mkt making lots money on these. 100 pct at early bull mkt, 200 pct pct currently. No 5c on dollar nonsense these guys. Now they watching spot and as it rises raise prices.

If you're selling, then no premium.
If you're buying, some/many dealers will tell you something like the 1996 has a premium.

    That's how it works out.

In general, though, they are "all the same" now with the price of silver....for BU (as stated in your title). Non-BU will, obviously, have a few exceptions

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I just sold 60 ASE’s yesterday (1/13/26) and the shop was paying spot -5 for white coins and -6 for toners. He says there are very few buyers at current prices. They were inundated with sellers while I was there with spot at $88/oz.

What we've got here is failure to communicate.....

But as spot silver rises, they're not raising the price on the Libertads (or Brittania's) dollar-for-dollar, are they ?

I know the mintages on both coins -- esp. the Libertads -- is much much less than ASEs and the prices for regular coins (let alone Proofs, 5 ouncers, etc.) can be out of sight.

I bought a 5-ounce PR68 DCAM Libertad and paid about a 100% premium to silver for it....but the 69's and 70's were thousands of dollars at premiums of 200-400%.
