1939 Nickel. 4.012 grams
Looking through some containers of “saved” coins, and this 1939 nickel caught my eye. Compared with other nickels of the era it is noticeably thinner, and actually I’d estimate .015 less diameter. Weight, very light at 4.012 grams. I’m thinking acid dipped, but our buddy Francis Henning made 1939s…..no looped R…. but it’s acid or Henning. Thoughts?

Acid reduced, just damaged.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I'd say likely acid dipped or potentially fake, but not a Henning as his work was better and his tended to be overweight if anything.
Definitely acid

acid
Yup. I agree.
It looks more cast than die struck
A bad trip for sure
That surface roughness is from uneven dissolution of the metal. Very common with acid.

Probably bring 100$ on eBay.
An acid treated coin. May have spent some time at Woodstock in 1969.
