Here it is - only 13 known out of a minuscule original mintage of 246:

While “only” a VG details Ex-jewelry piece, estimated bids will likely be in the six figures!

where's the mounting spot?
@MsMorrisine:
The auction description doesn’t say specifically but notes the weakness of the upper right reverse. Also mentioned are distinctive file marks above the eagle & along the right rim that are evidence of removal of the mount.

There are two additional examples currently up for auction on Heritage.
It's a rarity and out of my favorite mint but just not that interesting to me. However, there are so many awesome coins in that auction. Can't wait to lot view and maybe bid a couple of times.
Also, I'm not normally one for poring through a catalog but this auction has the best catalog that I've ever seen by far. Just fantastic. Great job @StacksBowersGalleries

even over the Pogue catalogs?
For my collecting interests, the coins themselves, the write-ups, and the history of many of these coins...yes.
EDIT: Maybe I got over enthusiastic with my "by far" and a bit of recency bias; the Pogue catalog is pretty great also. But I still prefer this one.

Seems odd that three of the 13 known coins would all be up for auction at the same time. Will the Stack pedigree carry the value of this coin higher than either of the other examples?

In my way of thinking, the CAC XF45 would be highest, despite the Stack provenance.

going to be hard to tell with the different grades and issues. you've got one straight graded and stickered
The PCGS pop total is 8; the XF45 is #2 behind a AU50.

The 54-S quarter eagle is not an ultra rarity. A 1854-S half eagle is. The quarter eagle appears w some regularity. In fact, Heritage has TWO coming up n their Platinum night mid- January. And Stacks has one too?
Give me a break!
Between the upcoming StacksBowers offering in January and the Heritage massive offering the same month, does anyone think there’s entirely too many ” high power “ coins suddenly on the market ?
Are too many advanced collectors , presumably of an advanced age, suddenly unloading?
Or is it the “ unsettling political and military times “ influencing it’s time to sell. Probably both.
i have never heard of selling rare coins in unsettled times
The two other 1854-S QE’s mentioned in the thread were auctioned today by HA. The results are in:
Not too bad for a coin that’s not(?) an ultra rarity….

You're free to define "ultra" any way you like, but there is no doubt it is quite rare. I suppose an 1894-S dime is also not an "ultra" rarity. And 1804 dollars must be downright common.

I would have a hard time paying up for an unattractive coin ......
Oh my, my - what a great group of coins!
Auction was today - winning bid was $114,000.00!
