CGC Now Encapsulating Select Cards in new ‘Tall Boy’ Holders

12/22/2025
CGC® is pleased to introduce a new holder specifically designed to fit oversized cards, especially certain vintage sports cards of the 1960s and 1970s

With SGC seemingly fading away, CGC appears to be moving toward that space.
Hopefully some competition is good for everybody.

Agree about competition but CGC in the comic space is worse than pure evil to the point PSA looks like angels in comparison -- and that ain't easy.

It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)

How is CGC worse on the comic side?

I watch the comic stuff some. I don't think CGC is anywhere near as bad as PSA.

Comics don't have the rookie hype sports cards do. There's nothing similar to that in Comics.

The comic market seems to me to be pretty dead right now. I don't think it's ever going to come back.

I heard Bernie Sanders say something along the lines of, businesses up until recently operated to serve the public. Now, businesses tend to operate to take advantage of the public.

CGC has been damaging nearly every high grade comic they have graded. sine ~ 2022.

    Look up bannagate.

They will do same to cards if will allow them to save a cent or 2 per slab

PSA may have a plethora od questionable practices but bending and damaging submitted cards and comics as BAU then claiming that is within normal tolerences is not one of them.

So, the CGC slab bends comics, just like the PSA slab destroys wax packs?

    You have a point there.

What i can tell you is in late 2023 and early 2024 I submitted 200 comics, that I had accumulated since the mid 90s, that received 9.8. This was across 9 submissions. In the Summer of 2024 when the news broke I inspected them, 188 were damaged and now are at best 9.4's.

Like many others I posted about the "banana" issue the "Ask CGC" sub-forum - in the past that usually led to some sort of mutual "settlement" but instead i was I was told that the bent books with color breaking bends were within 9.8 tolerances (an outright lie). Then like many others for simply bringing up the issue I was banned from their forum where i had been an active member and helpful resource (I know hard to believe right) since 2004!

Submit anything to them at your own peril.

It kinda sounds like you paid them to smash your book then complained when they didnt smash it to your liking.

Wow, that is very unfortunate. Thanks for the explanation - I wasn’t aware of the comic shell issues
