Interesting Buffalo

I don't have this is hand yet and it's not my photo but what do you think is going on with the Buff's front leg and hoof? Abraded? Damaged? Struck through? I've never seen one like this before. I will post pics when I have it in hand. Could be just a funky pixelated photo of some sort? I found it quite interesting. It's a 1917 Philly btw.

From the photo it looks moderately abraded, but as this is a circulated/worn coin you cannot rule out simple damage from a photo.

On multiple occasions throught the series, die polishing was performed so perhaps that's the reason. Just a thought.

Definitely has that abraided look. Looks genuine to me.

Sometimes divots in the metal of the planchet cause this effect. Hard to tell.

Like it. Different for date and interesting. Wish Ron could have seen it and spoke of it.
