Repurposing Dreck for Christmas
My wife's grandfather was born in the Indian Nations part of Oklahoma. When he was around 10, his home burned, and his money was destroyed. The coins, Indian Head Cents and Liberty Nickels were fire damaged, fused and bent. He kept them. His daughter gave them to me recently, amost 120 years after the event, to see if anything could be done, or were the worth anything. Although the latest coin, 1906, looked nice, it was fused and bent.
Instead, the boss made Christmas ornaments with the story on the back. She distributed them to all of the grandchildren, some of them in their 60's stll remember him.
Here are some samples pictures.
