Saw an auction on ebay for 10,000 wheat cents. $2200 + shipping cost and they can be yours. Dates are 1941-1958, no teens, twenties or thirties.

Is that asking price? Until they sell for that it does not represent what they "are now going for". I would suggest that even an occassional sale at that price is just an outlier.
More like about 10c each. That still seems like a lot to me. I still think they go for 3c each, lol.
Interesting as 3c is about their melt value. I wonder if base metals like copper and nickel will start spiking (as alluded to in another thread) and whether people will start finding it more economical to melt these too.
illegal to melt cent and cupro-nickel nickels

Unless you have a good reason to believe that the coins have been selling for that, your question seems disingenuous.

Did the seller guarantee that they are unsearched?

the top of the box are all mercs and the botton all are 1909 and 1909 s
The dates are 1941 - 1958, so they've been searched.
I'd like to offer 10,000 wheat cents for $10,000 to the OP. So, now wheat cents are going for a nice round $1 each. Shipping is free.

I'd only be tracking SOLD items to see what they're "going for"...

Rhetorical question. Relax counselor. But I did actually see an auction on ebay offering 1941-1958 wheat cents, 10,000 of them for $2200 asking price.

I didn’t doubt that you’d seen such a listing. But it wasn’t any more ridiculous than (edited for typo correction) countless other ones on eBay.

This bag of 10,000 went for $750:
I got half a bag, almost worth shipping.
Best to believe they have been. Any offerings I always assume that they have been checked out. Unless some minor errors/varieties slip through.
Notice the phrase a free "harschepuppy sandwich". LOL
I've always assumed that the term 'unsearched' actually means "unsearched by my mom".
Make it while ya can 🤔
Or ones dog or cat.
Timely topic….there are various levels of searched wheat cents.
About 20 years ago I acquired a large estate from a long retired part time dealer. It contained lots of everything, but one bin was hundreds of rolls of wheat cents. He said his kids or grandkids back in the sixties sorted and searched them for him. I offered 2 cents apiece and we moved on.
Later I did a quick search, as they were tying up space and capital, so I wanted to move them out. It quickly became apparent that the kids had likely only searched for the key dates. Everything else was there, including XF/AU mint marked cents going back to the teens. So I made three groups, one with anything worth ~$10+ went to stock, the vast majority group was common stuff after 1930 that I sold off at 2.5 cents apiece, then another group from 1909 to 1940, along with the nicer steel cents and original red cents from 1940 to 1958 that I kept, about 20 rolls.
Fast forward to Christmas Eve. We’re at a party and the host started talking about buying Mercury dime rolls and wheat cent rolls online, and never finding anything good. I remembered that hoard of remnants that I’d forgotten about, and mentioned it. He’s buying it today!
Bizarre humor. Well, at least images of iconic Rockwell paintings are not being desecrated with this example of bizarreness.

I am wondering if there is any inclination about the melting ban being lifted for cents. Once that happens, all bets are off on 1959-1982 copper cents, right now I am pulling those out. I also see a lot of wheat cents being melted once that happens too.
counties countless
The auction title is misleading in that it advertises wheat cents, "1909-1958", for sale but on close inspection, the cents offered, all 10,000 of them are dated 1941-1958.

Buyers are not balking at the shipping cost of cent hoards.

Time to sell the memorial copper now.
Looks like 1959-1982 cents are fetching 4-5¢ apiece now on ebay. I can't believe dealers will pay this much at this time, however. All I could get awhile back (a year ago) from my B&M dealer for my 15,000 1959-82 dates with a few worn out wheats in the mix was "face value", $150 and not a penny more.
Just a collosal piggy bank accumulation for me i guess. I traded my 15,000 pennies to this dealer for some collector coins that I estimated total value at about $200.

Just trying to help.
If 10,000 wheat cents plus a harschepuppy sandwich recently sold for $750, why would you think that the same number of cents would sell for $2,200 (and without a harschepuppy sandwich, no less)?
I like your new signature line, by the way. 👍
