What's the cheapest you remember buying SAEs at when new?
I didn't start them until 2003/2004.
I think I recall getting some for $6-$7ea, or between $120-$140 per roll.
Might have been some "deals" on them at the time. I can't recall.
I do recall they were cheap enough I would carry some as pocket pieces and didn't care much if I misplaced/lost one. I would just replace it.
I would even give some out spur of the moment at times.
Nowadays, with silver at almost $80/oz, I don't even look at buying the SAEs. The 3 albums are no longer continued.
So, what price do some of you older folks, that have been getting them for 20+ years, remember paying?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Retiring at 55, what day is today?
I recall buying them and a flat hundred dollars per roll and the same for Libertads.
I think I remember getting my first one in 1986, right after they came out for 5$ plus tax from a local jewelry store.
Also, they had 10th oz. gold for $40
I bought 5 1997 ASE's from Littleton from some promotional ad in a magazine after they were issued by the Mint. Got me on their mail list. Think I paid $7.50 for the lot which included S&H. Still have a couple.
$5.50
I had posted this in a thread a few years ago:
He who knows he has enough is rich.
I remember buying silver rounds at about $4.75-$5. I never really bought ASE because they were more expensive. Still have some raw mercury dimes with .45c cost written on the 2x2.
Being young and broke I remember the coin store being annoyed that I wanted to pick through the junk silver to only spend $10 or $20.
I remember seeing all the coin world adds for 1/10 eagles at like $38. Wish I had splurged on those instead of beer, cars and ex wives.

What was the issue price for 1986 proof Silver Eagles ?
That might be the lowest I bought any Silver Eagles for.
I do still have a die-struck Johnson-Matthey 10-troy-oz 999 silver bar that I bought at a coin shop for $48 ($4.80 per ounce).
I remember the lowest I ever bought 90% silver coin was 2.5 times face value. Also some Morgan and Peace Dollars for $3 each.
.
1986S Proof was $21. I bought a roll in 1988 at $6/each I believe.
.
Thanks for that. That seems pretty high ($21).
I'm sure I bought a few (non-proof) Silver Eagles along the way for less than $10.
.
I recall getting 100oz Engelhard bars for 450/each in 2002, ASE were around 6/each

In 1987 I bough a couple rolls in the tubes otc at my local coin dealer for $6 along with a few proofs in the mint boxes for $20. I went to a few local shows and found little to no interest in them in trades so I am thankfully still stuck with them, LOL! Knowing little about coins though learning as much as possible the same local dealer had just picked up a 1916/16 Buffalo in au58 at a show for $8 grand which he told me up front he had to get eleven for it. At the time, almost forty years ago, it may well have been $ eleven million so I had to decline even then was a fair deal. A couple months later he told me the purchaser got it upgraded to MS 61!
I didn't really do the SAE's until 10 years ago. I do remember buying 1/10 oz. gold for $ 34 around 1999. Bought a small hoard of circ. Mercury & Roosevelt, 2 for a quarter. I still have the gold and the dimes. Wish I'd have bought more gold.
Forgot to add, the dimes were bought around 1970.
I also bought the 1oz gold (only size available the first year) for $550. Mowed a lot of lawns for that one and I still have it.
Still have a roll of 2000s I got off ebay delivered for $100
Free. Got one for subscription to Numismatic News in a galaxy far far away...........
The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.

I never messed with ASE's as I was a coin collector as a kid, not bullion buyer. I have seen ase from old collections over the years come in with 5-8 price tags still on the holders from late 80's.
I did sell a partial set of Lincoln Cents in 1985 , and I remember thinking about putting the money into a 100 oz bar at coin show, it was priced at 385.00 , but I didnt. It wa sa j& m bar still in box
In 2006, i bought two burnished 4 coin gold sets from the mint. I think they were about $1300 each. They were limited and I sold one set that year for $1800. I thought i was a wheeler and dealer. Should have kept both. uggghh
I think my ASE purchases were in the 5 to 7 dollar range in the late 80s.
