My brother and I were talking about his takeout slide in the 77 playoffs against Yankees, I thought it was Willie Randolph coming from second to cover, he thought it was whoever their SS was. I was correct.
Anyway, I didn’t realize he had a takeout slide against the A’s in the 72 WS.
One of my top 5 all time Royals!

there is one visual and one visual only that comes to mind when i hear or read the name Hal McRae
and i think you know what it is
Either taking out Randolph or the meltdown in a midwestern town…
Sung to the tune ‘life in a northern town…’
Meltdown in a midwestern town.
A group of reporters stayed
To ask the skipper how the Royals played
And the questions lasted all day
All day
Out of his chair an enraged McRae came
Like he was taking out Randolph in his younger days
Pushing his desk away
Ah hey ma ma ma
Hey ma ma ma
Meltdown in a midwestern town
Hal was throwing things in a haste
A reporter had blood on his face
And everyone else tried to calm him down
To listen
Hal said this is the spring of 1993
Why do you always have to question me
No I didn’t put Brett in
Now you act like it’s a mortal sin
Damn.. this is going to be… a long season
Hey oh ma ma ma
Hey ma ma ma
Meltdown in a midwestern town
And Hal didn’t even wave goodbye
The rage still showing in his eyes
As the reporters rolled out of sight
Bye bye
Oh hell yes hey oh ma ma ma
Let’s bring it hey oh ma ma ma
Meltdown in a midwestern town
