This Morgan dollar group is up for auction. This 1893-s Morgan is described as "fine to vf". Is this even a fine?

Think so, the rims are full, you could see the outline of the obverse lower leaf and some of the hair details. Nice color and dirt still evident

Their estimate for the lot seems low.

Can someone post a link to the auction?

It goes up to 1895-s, then the next group finishes the run. I wonder on what basis they gave such a ridiculous low estimate, already bid up to around $15K plus the juice when GS is over $14k for a full set in fine.

Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions, LLC is a well respected long time stamp auction firm that appears to be branching out to include coins, etc.

Don't be mislead by low estimates or starting bids.

They've been doing coins for a while now. Estates and banks would rather deal with auction companies than coin shops.

They get 22% on the buying end and a similar percentage on the consigning end.

The Whitman folder Morgans remind me of the strangest auction I ever saw. It was a local "estate sale" auction that had a little bit of everything, including some coins. When the Morgans came up for auction, the way they ran it was- the high bidder could choose as many dollars as he wanted from the folders, each for his winning bid amount. The bids ran up to the value of the most valuable coin available. Of course, the high bidder selected that one. Then the whole process was repeated, with a time-out to list for the crowd the remaining dates after each round. After a dozen or so rounds with the bids declining each time, the coins were finally all sold.

I remember those Whitman folders for Silver Dollars. Every time you opened the folder several dollars would fall out of it. I found a lot of different dates by going through groups of Silver Dollars from the bank. My Dad bought me an 1878-CC in UNC. for $4.50 in 1963 or 1964. He also got me Uncirculated 1890,1891,1898,1899,1900,1901,1902,1903, and 1904 Morgan Dollars from the New Orleans Mint. I never did finish that set. I wish that I had that set now.

There seem to be more and more of these auction companies and the networks they've signed up for such as "Live auctioneers": https://www.liveauctioneers.com/

The group of Morgan dollars sold for $19.5K. I looked through the raw group, though the 93-s may grade VF or so, there were not a lot of other money coins in the group. The 79cc and 89cc were damaged fine and vg. The 1896-o looked MS62 to me. The rest varied a lot and I estimated the grade on each one. I figured less than $18K for the group would be reasonable.
