Last Night's Heritage Auction
Did anybody win anything nice they want to share?
I was very happy to win these two. Have always appreciated the tall boy Joe as an iconic card and kind of assumed I would never have one so I'm liking the idea that this will be coming to me. It has some flaws but I was taken by the color/registration and felt like 15 years ago maybe it would be graded a 7. Even if no, happy to add it.
Then have always appreciated this 51 Bowman Dante Lavelli. I have been trying to build the graded set for a long time, selling some off a while back and then reversing course and adding. I like a lot of the images and think this is a nice one. Also really like Browns logo. I feel like this has always been one of the more condition-sensitive cards in the set outside of #1 and #132, first and last and probably often rubber-banded. POP on the PSA 8 is 20 so it was a little odd to see two of this card in the auction.
I'm also curious to get everybody's thoughts on whether we are seeing a modest pullback in card prices on the higher-end stuff. Might be a nice time to get some value purchases. A lot of the stuff I was seeing was a little under the Heritage sales price projection. Felt like for a while certain cards were regularly getting record prices.

Comments
Didn’t buy but was watching about 20items.
That 78 Brett PSA 10 was a great price. Those are so hard to find centered.
The signed playing days 52T Mick 1.5/8 went for $945,000, which was very strong. The estimate was 500k+.
Their estimates are always all over the place. The signed Mays RC had an estimate of 100k and went for 219,600.
The e90-1 Jackson had a 120k estimate and closed at 158.6k.
The signed 52T Ed Mathews had a 15k estimate and went 31.6k.
The Star Jordan 101 PSA 7 had an estimate of 75k and went for 106k.
The signed 53B #44 had a 2K estimate and went for 7k.
The signed 53T #258 had an $800 estimate and went for 2684.
A very OC SGC 4.5 52T Mick blew out the 50k estimate at 100,650.
The very OC PSA 8 52T Mick also beat the 1.5M estimate.
The signed 1990 Thomas NNOF had a 10k estimate and went for 19k.
The 1984 Fleer Update set had an estimate of 1500 and went 2500; I thought I could steal that LOL.
Those are ones I was watching.
Love the Lavelli card; I think 1951 Bowman cards are about as beautiful as cards get.
That '65T Namath is awesome! Definitely one of my all time want cards.
Congrats to whomever got the PSA 8.5 Gretzky that went for $64k. I was one of the underbidders on that one. To me it looks as good as most 9s out there.
I was also watching the PSA 7 Star 101 Jordan. Wasn’t surprised it sold for so high given the beautiful centering.
The PSA 8 1955 Clemente surprised me at $159k. That was almost 4x more than the PSA 8 1954 Aaron that went for $41k. I remember in the olden days when those two cards sold for around the same price.
The best card I ever had was the 54 Aaron in PSA 8. When I submitted it the dealer who submitted it for me told me it had a good chance of receiving a 9. I sold it over two decades ago after getting married for either $2,400 or $2,600 which was a good price at that time.
I had bid on a Fred Lynn PSA 10 rookie that only sold for $1200 prior to the fees. That felt cheap. I guess it depends on which cards you are looking at. There will always be that group of appealing cards that will get people really riled up. I won a Verlander rookie recently that felt cheap but he is like 43 and won 4 games last year so maybe that was the reason for the low sales price.
I bid on a beautiful ‘65 Catfish RC PSA-9…but bailed at $4k….it sold for a record for the grade at $7k.
A ‘73 Schmidt RC PSA-9 tied a record for the grade at $19k…
Another 70s RC did well…’75 Brett RC PSA-9 broke $10k!
To me…prices seemed strong. Another example is a ‘60 Aaron PSA-8.5 beating the estimate of $12k by selling at $22k+!
73 schmidt psa 10 was impressive at 353,000.
Modest pullback?
I was watching that Brett since I have one. People just LOVE that card.
Clearly not on a lot of stuff. The very limited stuff I have been looking at felt cheaper than usual. Was not following a lot of this stuff mentioned where it was way out of my budget. Glad a lot of stuff is doing well. Just turned in a lot of cards for consignment.
Someone made out nicely flipping the 1948 Leaf Stan Musial in PSA 8. It had sold in last spring’s REA auction for $26,400 which was well below what it had been selling for over the last few years. (To be fair they also had a gorgeous SGC 8.5 that might have “stolen” a few bids.) The Heritage sale brought over $39,000 keeping it in line with recent sales.
Also this sale was really strong, though to be sure, I think the centering is dead perfect.
The ‘86 Fleer Jordan caught my eye…and was on my tracking list. It is recently graded (97xxxxxx)….and I agree the centering is 50/50. That is a strong price…but the card is a beauty…so it warrants a premium. Plus, the registration is spot-on ( no ghostly magenta on the the basketball cords or on Jordan’s shoulders). A very strong 9, which might be a MBA-Gold diamond card.
WHITE dot bottom left corner?
Yep and my eyes are immediately drawn to that. Also there is small back ink smudge just above that. Weak 9 IMHO, for most submitters it woudl have been an 8.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)
Tom, you snagged this one? That's a great box. I won the Dark Shadows box.
It looked odd so I looked the card up. It is clean. I wasn't sure either, but the dot must be on the scan and there's a shadow too.
I think it may be the mark near the upper left corner on the back. Perhaps. Or maybe the minimal edge wear. Regardless it's sweet in my book.
Yeah, very happy to snag this!
Nice grab on the Dark Shadows
The "white dot" appears to be something between the holder and the card or when scanned as mentioned, not on the card. It is a strong 9 in my book.
Why so many dots on basketball cards of the 80's. Or should I say the holders
I picked up this card for my set. Pretty stoked. Very tough to find centered. An 8 also sold a few weeks ago and belongs in a PSA 5 holder instead in my opinion. Card was pretty beaten up.

Just curious - has anyone's order shipped? I know the holiday is impacting processing, but the the suspense is kiling me! LOL
Mine hasn't
