That is a great piece!

It needs to be in a well publicized auction with photos and write-up.
Very nice rotated double strike!
Thank you!
It belongs to a friend of mine in Europe, i’ll see if i can talk him out of it and get it back in the US!
I’ve never seen that level of detail on the secondary strike. I have a double struck1804 C-5 half cent that comes close, but that’s unusual.
Something looks “off” in general to me though. Maybe it’s the quality of the photo.
Nice coin, assuming all is in order.
Oh, and maybe it’s just me, but in my experience I see far more of the 1804 issues double struck than 1805s or any other date.
I do love early half cents, perhaps more than any other series. I was hooked years ago by Breen’s Encyclopedia.
How many are you talking about? Fewer than a dozen? Fewer than a handful? I wouldn't read too much into very small numbers. versus other very small numbers.
I’ve had two replies to this thread flagged for moderation, no idea why, both were very benign in nature.
Must have been a particular keyword used in both?
No idea.
I agree with @GuzziSport the look is a bit unusual in how much detail there is remaining in the original strike but I have no reason to doubt the authenticity.
As he says, rotated double strikes are available for 1804 half cents, but this one would be worth more due to the remaining detail.
That’s a good one.
Unusual coin yes. A decent bath would help if ya get that nice score
