2026 World Cup Soccer commemoratives are delayed

When the US mint opens up the new year one of the coins frequently available to purchase first are the commemorative coins. However according to the mint schedule there are no commemoratives available for January, and nothing is on the schedule past that. So it appears the mint has already fallen behind in 2026 for collector coin production.

Another clue might be the comic book coins and medals that the mint is selling for 2025. Most of these are still on pre-order after many months of being listed. The Superman gold coin, for example, shows as being on pre-order, yet inventory data has a low number left for purchasing. Either they will strike more in 2026 or it will be less than what was claimed to buyers.

2026 hasn't opened up yet, but the US mint seems to be backordered already. Of the few coins on the release schedule, the Congratulations Set silver eagle may be an early winner. With a mintage of only 60,000, for a proof silver eagle it stands already as a possible low mintage semi-key for future buyers due to the 2026 date not being 1776-2026. Only time will tell for sure. These can be an early purchase using the subscription service.

As far as the rest of the release schedule, it will have to be revealed eventually. 2026 is already shaping up to be an interesting year for coin buyers, and it hasn't even hit January 1st.
