I have several 5 gallon jugs of pennies from over the years. I've begun the process of sorting out the 95% copper and wanted to scan some of them ...

Scan them for what? Varieties? Value?

There are no really good apps for any coins.

Personally, I'd dump them all in a coin sorting machine or take them to one of those 0.02 gift card promotions. YMMV

Yeah, mainly just the really old buggers. It's more for kicks than actually trying to "find" something. THx for your input.

Unless they were hoarded before 1963 you will probably be wasting your time and eyesight. It is always possible you could have some of the microscopic varieties that are all the rage these days but probably not many. Even if you do find any you have to be able to market them without running up significant sales related costs.

    Is it worth the effort?
