Wonder the current value of that haul!

Newspaper Account:

Daily National Intelligencer, Washington D.C., August 21, 1858

As told from the Account Book of the Mint Cabinet:

Deep Background ….

In 1854 Treasury conducted a detailed investigation into multiple allegations regarding Philly, including pirate strikings. Security protocols were set out, and changes were made—but apparently not to Cabinet access !

PDF (long) is attached which details, inter alia, general security at the Mint in the 1850s. Some of the materials/attachments referred to, but not published re pirate strikes and other alleged wrongdoings , have been obtained and will be posted/published in the near term under a separate topic.
