2026-S cent/1975-S cent

Anybody remember when the first "Proof Only" cent appeared in the 1975 Proof Set? I remember them going for near $50 for a while - and that was fifty 1975 dollars. I'm wondering what the flippers are going to try and get for the 2026 Proof and Mint Sets

Philately will get you nowhere....

Has the mint announced producing 2026 cents?

the 2026 mint sets will likely be heavily (relatively) bought

pick one up cheap later then start in 2027 with the race to the bottom

Well then it is not really the end of the cent as the news outlets are telling it.

Didn’t the official notification say the end of circulation cents or something similar?

I'll bet they'll sell rolls and maybe even bags like they do for half dollars and dollar coins.

The half dollars and dollar coins cost the Mint less than their face value to manufacture, so rolls and bags can profitably be sold at modest markups. However, each cent costs more than 3 cents to make, and that's at high volume. A low-mintage cent could easily cost the Mint 10 cents or more per coin to manufacture and ship. Add the retail markup, and the retail price of a roll of 2026 cents could easily be $10 or more. I wouldn't be a buyer at that price.

I made the decision to include only coins minted for circulation in my 21st century type set. I bought a 2025 in MS67 to represent the shield reverse. I think/hope I’m done (I like to use last year minted examples).
