Great Collections buyers fee?
I'm considering consigning some gem US type to GC, approximately mid five figures worth. Is it possible to negotiate for a percentage of the buyer's fee, as can happen with with Heritage and other auction houses?

I doubt it at at that price range. Mid 7 or 8 figures, maybe.
Ask them. They don't bite and are excellent at responding to questions in a very timely matter.
The GC buyer's fee is only 10% when someone pays via their bank account. It's cheaper than everywhere else on the planet when you consider the number of eyes their auctions get... don't tell them though. I don't want them to increase it. Maybe you could try fleabay but then you carry the risk of getting ripped off, need to do your own photos/listings, and the shipping hassle etc...I haven't sold anything on there in about 10 years.
GC's quality photography, quick listings, and quick settlements are certainly worth it. I feel like I would have to get to the 7-figure realm before asking something like that. Mid 5-figures is such a tiny amount. There are people that use gold leaf tissues to blow their nose and 100 dollar bills to wipe. I'm as poor as dirt and have even sold mid 5-figures of stuff on GC over the years.
If you have time and want to maximize everything you can get then try walking show floors and listing/bumping a thread on the BST for a while but there are risks with that as well. You could potentially sell yourself short. But what is all that extra time and risk worth to you?

i'm in the camp that hopes they don't realize how much value they are delivering for their fees. james
