Ebay feedback question.

When did ebay start leaving automatic + feedback when a seller's item is deivered and buyer does not leave feedback?

Wow, that is pretty bold and assuming of the system. What difference does a couple of no feedback transactions make to eBay? eBay get's their fees, they shouldn't be making potentially false statements about transactions on my behalf. Personally, It's very rare that I leave non-positive feedback. But there are those times that the purchase was not overly satisfactory from my view for what ever reason. The transaction was not great but not a big enough deal to contact the seller or ding someone's feedback over. So I just let it slide and don't leave feedback. This may now change how I end up handling those situations.

It's not shown via default, you'd have to toggle view automated feedback; however the score shown includes the automated feedback.

If you read the thread above, if you leave feedback it replaces the automatic feedback.

How do you leave feedback, when it's already been left. That's how I found out when I couldn't leave feedback and this flashed up.

Does that mean the buyer can't file and return an item in the 6 month window for no good reason?

I prefer when I get honest feedback from buyers

Seller metrics and overall reputation are based on feedback, and if a number of buyers don’t leave feedback, the denominator is lower so each feedback that is left counts for more. Lots of buyers don’t leave feedback, and I’d venture a bet that most of those are for transactions that were fine. It’s the bad transactions where buyers are very likely to leave feedback. As a result, those non-positives carry extra weight when the seller has no control. eBay has put in a fix.

If there’s a transaction where you don’t think an issue is big enough to contact or ding the seller, then leave a positive or let eBay do it for you. That’s the whole point. A seller can’t address a problem they’re not aware of, and unless something is egregious where it’s obvious the seller is malicious and it wasn’t a mistake (perhaps the seller only lists Chinese counterfeits), then it’s not fair to go and ding them without giving them a chance to make it right. If the problem is so inconsequential that you can just let it slide, you won’t possibly convince me it deserves a neutral or negative solely because otherwise eBay is going to leave a generic positive.

But I think you're only half right. That is, there are two scenarios:

-- Seller leaves feedback for Buyer. I believe this is NOT automatic. If you want it automated, you have to do a setup:

-- Buyer leaves feedback for Seller. Jim, I think this is the scenario you're talking about.

What-Hasn't-Changed: You can still manually leave feedback for any particular transaction.

But I have one gripe: "As a seller, you can only leave positive feedback for buyers."

In my experience, roughly 1/3 of buyers leave feedback. Others have reported similar. I currently have just over 32,000 feedbacks on 100,000 transactions.

Assuming that a large number of buyers are happy but too lazy to leave feedback, this approach should yield a fairer positive percentage, particularly for infrequent sellers. I always leave feedback, so I’m good with this.
