I know the coin is nothing special, but is this an unusual designation?

About 50% of the mintage of 1880-O was the micro-o.

The scarcer micro-o (not counting the vintage counterfeits) is the 1899-o micro-o with about 20% of the total mintage. Most are circulated. So the higher the grade, the scarcer it is.

    The short answer is No.

I suspect you already know but the 1903 s micro is the real tough one to find especially at the AU and higher grade level
