@DisneyFan I’m curious, were all 20 coins already in straight grade (PCGS?) holders? did you or your friend spot the potentially PVC-damaged coins before sending them in to CAC? Were the results way off from what you both had expected?

Yes, they were all straight graded older PCGS coins. Three green stickers out 20 was a disaster! We've done better in the past.

I suspected the questionable toning; otherwise, we were looking for 19 stickers. In this case, the abrasions would result in a lower grade, They were not readily apparent; but, were enough to downgrade a coin. We had checked for PVC beforehand; however, it was not as obvious; except for one coin which looked to be toning instead of PVC.

Wow - more gob-smacking to me than the lack of stickers is the number of coins that they wouldn’t grade due to issues found on straight-graded PCGS coins.
And yes, I fully realize that there are problem coins in straight-graded holders but the %s in your results I find somewhat alarming.

If you're going to have stickers for corner angle verification, make them add up to 360 degrees so its mathematically possible....

    very interesting reading material.
But what does all this have to do with a collector trying to complete his set for an acceptable price? And without having to analyse each and every coin for the slightest difference? IF there even is one, but a TPG does say there is.????
do u really all think that all this +,-, CAC or no Cac does matter to a collector who simply wishes a reasonably priced coin????
It is obvious to me that all these extra "designations", existing or not, are nothing else but, in other words, $$$$$$$$= big $$$$$=moon money.
and perhaps bragging "rights"... but mine is, has "that little bit of haircurl" mentioned. :o
sorry guys, I had to let this off my chest.... :#

    OP here-

In this case, it doesn’t sound like CAC approved coins matter to you or should matter. However, each coin in my collection, while not the most individually significant, adds up and I want my collection to retain its value and my investment. I have found that the best way to do that right now is to have CAC approved coins. The sticker seems harder to come by nowadays for some reason so I am curious if the grading service is as strict.

They may not be A coins.
I am suggesting that coins that get slabbed by CAC and are obviously not stickered, how would we know if the coin is an AB or C?
I highly doubt that CAC will sticker there own coins.

No, they will not sticker their own graded coins, it is listed in their policies for coin stickering. They only accept PCGS and NGC, although they state that they will consider ANACS "in rare circumstances" but has anyone ever seen one of those?

I have never seen an ANACS, CAC approved coin. I’m surprised they would consider it.

On the website, CAC says that they are the same standard but that is hard to believe that they could be identical since some state that JA looks at all the sticker candidates personally, and would not be able to look at all the slabbed coins too. They certainly do seem to be tougher though, in my experience.
