Opinions on my C Bechtler gold Newp

liefgoldliefgold Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am a gold dollar collector and have purchased many over the years. I have always wanted to add one of these private mint coins to my collection, but I am far from an expert on selecting one. I picked this one because I liked the dirty, old gold, look and although it has some honest wear, it does not seem to have the dings and scratches that many I saw did.

I also noticed that having CAC approval on these means a substantial boost in value on these. Does JA pass this one?

I know there are a few on this forum that specialize in private mint gold. Opinions!

That looks lovely and original, nice pickup!

As for CAC, the grade and surfaces look like a shoe-in however, I don't know if the rim/dentil issues are as struck, heavy wear, or damage. If that's how they come, I like your chances. If that's not how they come, you have a tough hill to climb.

But you need one of those aforementioned private mint specialists to opine on that. @PeakRarities

That is a gorgeous A Bechtler. Very deserving of that gold sticker!

Thanks, odd to me, but I found that languishing on eBay and scooped it up at a decent discount to the listed price.
IMO as to your CAC question, I’d say your coin has the eye appeal of a standout, but I’m clueless as to how these grade, so who knows what CAC will make of the slab grade during their evaluation. That’s how I see it, but as I said I’m horrible at predicting sticker submissions.
Curious what the true experts think.

@liefgold the color looks really nice to my eye and I love that backward N variety, but my ability to predict CAC results is akin to the NY Jets ability to draft football talent.
Here’s my A. Bechtler, which obviously stickered, and has similar color to your newp. Best of luck with it!

i like gold, on both counts

Very beautiful and historic coin. I have become too accustomed to sleeping indoors so I would have had to pass. James

Doug Winter once said that there are only three people who know how to correctly grade territorials and they don’t work for TPGs.

I think your coin is lovely looking with nice color and good eye appeal.

I’m sure @PeakRarities will have some interesting things to say about territorials and stickers.

Some have a reeded edge, some do not.

    Very nice addition, like!
Compare it to Guzzi's 45, my gut says it won't bean as graded, but jmho.
Let the specialists mix in here indeed, I am curious too.

Fantastic looking coin, nice natural hues and I like the current grade. It looks like it might have had an ancient old wipe in some of the fields, but the color looks right, but most of them (including my beaded border $1" have the same look. Getting a bean is tougher these days, but I think you have 33% chance on your fist try, not sure if the rim at 7:00 obv is as made but if it is that increases your chance.

This one is mine, and this is before it ungraded to au58 (and beaned again)b but imo this one was a 58 to begin with.

Here's a terrible TV of my earlier variety which has more similarity in surfaces. This one beaned as an au58

I think its definitely worth try for sticking, but try not to let it bum you out too much if it fails. I have seen some amazing bechtler coins not sticker that I would love to have.in my collection, sticker or not , and that's a great coin!

Thanks for your input @PeakRarities .
I wondered about that rim at 7 o'clock also, but in comparing mine with other Bechtlers I did find another with very similar markings. So I am fairly confident that it is "as struck".
I will give CAC a shot!
