Thoughts on if this scratch will grade?

Other than the scratch, I see this as an MS coin (I'd guess 63/64). It looks pretty deep so I'm concerned it could even come back as graffiti or scratched. Thoughts from folks better versed in grading than I am?

  • I think the scratch (code 95) at PCGS will be shown here --- I Feel that the scratch is not toned over and importantly, from my opinion, seems large or long. I feel PCGS would not grade it straight. This is also a crown sized coin or a minor? I feel the scratch is long and noticeable, IMO.

It's a crown size, double weight, quite a rare coin. There's a scratch over the 48 year, and another two to the left of the knight. I agree that it probably won't grade straight.... thanks for the opinion, unfortunately I'll pass on the coin then (I was considering purchasing it).

You could always purchase it subject to it straight grading. Make the sale contingent upon that, at your cost, within 1 month, otherwise a full refund.

Edited to add: the surfaces look cleaned from the photo, so the scratch may not be your only problem.

Those surfaces appear cleaned to me as well.

Ah got it! Piefort, I think? I feel it is a solid coin but just those rather long scratches. I also agree with others---it is cleaned IMO. It will get NGC Cleaned and Scratches and maybe PCGS Scratch (95) if sent to PCGS.
