Is there a way to turn notifications off for specific threads?

I want to turn off notifications for several threads that generate over 1,000 notifications per month.
I cannot keep up with meaningful notifications when I am buried in 1,300+ notifications every time I check them. It feels like spam at this point and the notifications feature has become useless for me, and has been for a few years.
The excessive notifications have prevented me from posting in several popular threads simply because I do not want another source for scores of pointless notifications.
I do not want to turn off all notifications for all threads, only three or four that get a LOT of traffic.

Also, make sure the Star isn't selected on any of the threads:

never tried this -
scan across the thread entry in the list going to the right. click on the gear not star. there is "Mute" in the listbox
the world will thank you if you report back that it works
It does not allow specific threads to be selected to “opt out”
All or none it seems

Rocco can the mods help by unstickying your thread at the top

that thread is generating next to no notifications
i just tried muting one thread. we'll see how that works
yes, mute for a thread turns off notifications for that thread
I like the resources thread. I did not realize there is a mute function. I will look for that.

maybe try cancelling ALL notifications and bookmark the threads you want to catch up on
The mute function found in the gear at the top of the thread turns of individual notifications. I am very happy to learn this, thanks all.
