1838 Seated Liberty Dime

I have a 1838 Seated Liberty Dime with an upright shield and drapery at the left elbow, which both began appearing on the 1840 Dime. Why would these features be on my 1838 Dime?

    The digits in the date are not the right shape for a genuine 1838 dime, which means that it is not a genuine 1838 dime.

    Maybe a retooled date.

    Looks genuine but as mentioned, the date has been retooled.
    This is what the date should look like.
