The Great Re-strike Era-Treasury Excoriates, Defines/Regulates, Proofs, Patterns, Experiments-1887

The start of the Mint Cabinet by Dubois & Eckfeldt in 1838 opened an era of re-striking which multiple attempts, circulars etc., failed to stop. It was still a problem in 1887.

In 1887, Treasury took further action to stop unauthorized strikes. How successful this was is debatable, e.g. 1913 V Nickel most famously.

Thought the below pdf of excerpts from the 1887 Treasury Report might be of interest to pattern collectors, those interested in the legal meaning of certain descriptive numismatic terms like pattern, proof etc. and also, to anyone with a general interest in “The Great Restrike Era.”

Is 12 pages, including the cover (some pages a bit blurry).

Aware I have been a bit prolific with posts lately—will do my best to lay low for a minute!
