eBay is just an accessory, once they fail to take action after being notified of such unscrupulous sellers.

I called ebay and asked them if they were selling counterfeits. They said no.

They aren't. People on their site are. As are people on Facebook, Instagram etc

To quote (kinda) from the movie classic Casablanca:

I'm shocked - shocked - to find that gambling is going on here! fake 2025 Silver Eagles are being sold on ebay!

All kidding aside.... I'm not surprised. Fakes everywhere.

The worst part is that they're fake and $25. It's a nonsensical number. It's far too low for a genuine coin and far too high for a fake one. :|

There was a recent tread on how to report fakes on eBay in 2025, so I decided to report a couple of counterfeits. It is clear that eBay does not want to control counterfeits.

The first one is a counterfeit 1804 Dollar that had two bids and 24 hours left before end of auction. The counterfeit sold for $765.00. The following is eBay response:
Thanks again for reporting the listing(s) you found.

    What happened:
We looked into your report and didn't find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent..

If you reported content that isn't listed below, we'll send a separate email once we've made a decision.

Here are the listings you reported that are included in this decision:
    Item: 286820429493 USA Draped Bust Dollar-Heraldic Eagle• 1804

Thank you for being part of the ebay community.
    Thanks,
    ebay

The next reported fake was a bad 1878 CC Trade Dollar from a Chinese seller with 4 pages of counterfeits that have been listed for over 3 days. On this one I went into detail of why the example was fake as it had a type 1 reverse that was not used in 1878. The following is eBay response:

We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence.

If you reported content that isn’t listed below, we’ll send a separate email once we’ve made a decision.

    Thanks,
    eBay

If 25 drivers are running a stop sign in your neighborhood each day on average and the local police only pull over and ticket four of them that doesn't mean your community condones or allows commuters to run stop signs.

the community of ebay is the police force too

considering the effort it takes to get a minuscule number removed and the rejections on the rest, their self-policing allows it to keep happening

It's getting bad, fake locations too. Please, nobody tell me there is a real Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in China.

Stolen photos, fake locations, hacked accounts. I am a big fan of Ebay, but as of recent, the dangers have me second guessing.

You know it's not authentic when there's no HHL.
