Is a book length read, en toto. Section most relevant to the Trade Dollar begin on pg. 45 through pg. 91 of the text (pdf page numbers starts at 54). Page 45-59 (text pages) sets the stage, Pages 60-91 specifically discuss the Trade Dollar. Pdf version is searchable
Bit niche, but found it informative to wider considerations underlying the Trade Dollar and its effects here, in China, and beyond. Thought it might be of interest to some, so just passing along.

11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
I read part of it, but I am not sure I agree with his assertion on one page
that chop marks will reduce the weight of a trade dollar.
I suppose it might happen if the silver alloy is not ductile enough and small pieces at the chop focus fell off.
