EBay bidding - never happened before, now 2x in one week

I manually snipe. I put my bid in with a few seconds left. Bidding apparently gets raised to within the default increment right as I bid. So my bid gets shut out and the winner gets the item below my bid amount.

Now, for all I know, the winner may have bid above me regardless. However, that's not guaranteed.

That had never happened to me before. Both times, I thought I had won only to find out a lower bid had won. I suppose in the past that bids within a second of each other both processed, jumping the bid to the lower of the higher bid or next increment - if the bid was at $200 and you bid $202.51 and someone bids $202.50 (or higher) a millisecond before you, your bid is disregarded.

I do what you do. Snipe at the finish line. Sometimes it doesn't work out. Occasionally I get outbid by a penny or 2. Or a stinking dollar. Or like you've described, I could swear my snipe bid would have been highest, but someone else hit the button at that exact moment and my bid falls off a cliff.

  • i think its because their snipe was before yours, therefore you have to bid a certain increment above theirs is the problem (like .05)
Now if you had your inital snipe set above theirs (202.51) then yeah you would have Won by 1 cent. But thats not the case.
