It almost makes me want to go back and work on a nice set of early dates to go along with my middle and late dates. But those prices will shut me out. So, I'll stick with the half dime varieties...

A great coin. This Sheldon-110 Reverse of 1794 is not a hoard variety. There are only a handful that have ever been graded as Unc.
This exact coin was auctioned in the September 2009 Dan Holmes Collection at $178,250 and then again in the Pogue March 2017 Stacks Bowers auction at $329,000. A number of the biggest early coppers peaked several years ago and have resold for lower prices since.
Yikes.
Even getting it in a new holder and stickered didn’t help…or maybe it would’ve been even worse? Another example for the thread about buying the best you can afford, I suppose…the bidders in the Pogue auction may have had some irrational exuberance.
Fantastic coin though. Any decent ‘96 bust cent is tough and expensive. I remember having sweaty palms negotiating my lowly example, now graded VG10 😆.
Some of the major players have gone on to greener pastures, and those that are left don’t have to fight as hard.
I saw that coin as well as the ‘96 Cap in OK City. Amazing pieces, much nicer quality wise than anything the other major auction houses had to offer, at least in terms of early copper.

Its AMAZING that 229 year old copper can even look like that. WOW

Very interesting. The S-110 is not mentioned but that probably doesn’t mean much.
Smitten with DBLCs.

Wow! I guess the deeper pockets retreated. Incredible coin though!
@Walkerguy21D ... I feel your pain... mine is a lowly G4 details coin in my album!!
