Packing, labeling and shipping your submission

logger7logger7 Posts: 9,100 ✭✭✭✭✭

How do you label and pack your shipment to grading services? Have you ever had grading services complain about how you did it? I hate overkill and packing that is extreme. I've never heard complaints from PCGS, NGC or CAC; however Anacs does not have a pdf fillable submission, so you have to fill it by hand. Many of us don't write that much; last time I sent a submission to them they complained about my handwriting. I consider that rude and discourteous though will try to do better next time. Also they don't want any tape, PCGS and cac haven't complained about that. If I put coins in flips how am I going to be sure they won't come out unless there is something to secure the flips?

They advise using rubber bands to secure the flips. I'll do that sometimes, then put them in a slab sized bubble bag or similar. By the end the coin(s) has been secured in at least 3 layers of protection in the box.
I've used a piece of tape to secure a flip insert to the top edge of a slab or GSA case, rather than a sticker on the face denoting the sub#, etc. No complaints so far.

I always include a small package of butter mints for Polly. No complaints so far.

If your submission form looks like a ransom note to the police from a serial killer, consider a courteous redo. I’ve been complimented from the grading companies on how neat & accurate my forms are, and they still get the coin label information wrong.

The part that needs to be taped to the gills is the outer box(s), and then I use various size bubble mailers depending on quantity. Sometimes a PCGS box if there's enough to fill the majority. Make sure your forms are legible and neat, and I'd say last, though definitely not least, make sure your slab windows are clear so they can see the coin for recon or crossover. Put yourself in their shoes- scratchy old slab - when in doubt, you'd probably punt too 🤷‍♂️.

    No need to handwrite.

Download the form to your desktop. Open acrobat reader and incorporate the form into it. Select fill and sign and you should be able to type in what you need. If you have poor typing skills I can't help you with that. If you're so married to your phone that you don't have access to a PC and desktop displayed on a monitor, then you're SOL.

Click MENU in AR, choose open and then look for the form. Couldn't be more simpler.

Put the flips into a plastic bag and tape over that. Easy Peasy.

I went to the anacs site and the form is downloadable and can be opened in Acrobat Reader. You have to set your pointer to the space where you want text and left click. This opens up a box where you can type in the desired text and click on the edge of the text box and drag it if necessary. Clicking outside of the box makes it disappear and you're ready for the next entry. The anacs folks might be in awe of how you did it.
