@Copperindian, so Ken, as 2/3 of your exceptionally rare and exquisite Flying Eagles have sold, are you happy with the results? Is the market where you thought it would be? I would think in this strong market you did well. I hope so. I don’t think I would be able to part with 1 of those, let alone all. Congrats to you. A fellow FEC colleague, but not at your level. Zack.
@jfriedm56: appreciate your kind words Zack! I’m very happy with the results. As these coins are so rare, we set a tight price range & first listed them @ the upper end. There are no plans to discount the remaining three.
For me, putting together the set was a collecting adventure. Each coin has its own story. While I did have some time to enjoy them after the set was completed, I realized close to a year ago it really couldn’t be improved upon. Not only is the supply & availability very limited, but my bank account wouldn’t allow me to even think along those lines.
When I decided to sell, I knew right away such a sale would have to be outside the box due to the unique nature of the set. I’ve known Shannon (Paradime) for a long time & admired the work he had done in the past with other sets & in varied categories. This observation proved to be correct! From my end, it was a great collaboration in every respect. Every step of the way was done in a meticulous & organized manner - it took months to get to yesterday’s sale.
Finally, once I decided to sell + during the process along the way, my selling comfort level increased. I knew it was the correct decision. It is difficult, though, to part with something you’ve built. I always look at a sale of coins like these as giving an opportunity for another collector to have the ownership for however long he/she might choose. After all, they are works of art & pieces of history.
As a fellow collector, all I can say is we all arrive at our respective collector levels. It’s up to us to become our own masters at whatever or wherever that might be. I think our fairly frequent dialogue has proven that to be the case. Always enjoy the discourse with you Zack!

@Copperindian, I’m extremely happy for you that you are not disappointed. For me, selling such a prized collection would be so difficult, I guess I could rationalize it and say as you did that some others would now be able to enjoy them too! Glad too that the experience so far has gone smoothly. Best of luck on your remaining few eagles. Best regards Zack.
