1893 Hong Kong 50 Cent Is this damage done after minting or an error during the printing process?

I purchased this coin in a lot of silver items and I am uncertain as to what the damage is considered to be on the obverse side. It is a 1893 Hong Kong 50 Cent coin. Any comments are greatly appreciated!

That looks like a lump of solder, from someone turning this coin into a button. Thus, the damage would be classified as a "removed mount mark".

looks like a chop mark to me.

  • Thank you for the answers! I was able to look up the terminology you used, Sapyx, and I would have to agree with your answer. It was on the button, so to speak.

I am going to mark this question answered and be grateful I paid a little less than spot value for the silver!
