IMEX Surprise: Buddy Ebsen IMMY Award + Curated Exhibit

Here’s one of the special surprises IMEX is bringing this year! We’re proud to announce that an IMMY Award will be presented at the Opening Ceremony in honor of Buddy Ebsen. His estate, represented by the American Heritage Center, will also be showcasing a curated exhibit, and Professor Paul Flesher, Director, will be on hand to share insights about the collection.

Most Americans remember Buddy Ebsen for his iconic role as Jed Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies, but fewer know about his lifelong passion for coin collecting. Beyond the bright lights of Hollywood, Ebsen was an active member of the numismatic community, even helping to found the Beverly Hills Coin Club. He often credited collecting as a way to relax and connect with history, while also inspiring others in the hobby.

At IMEX, attendees will get a unique opportunity to see both sides of Buddy Ebsen’s legacy—television legend and serious coin enthusiast. From the Clampetts’ “Texas Tea” to treasures of real silver and gold, this special exhibit is sure to be a highlight of the show and a tribute that bridges pop culture and numismatics in a way only IMEX can deliver.

I hate to keep being Debbie Downer, but the continued "promotions" by IMEX reflect a profound lack of vision.

Rather than "most Americans" remembering Buddy Ebsen, I would say hardly any do. In fact, his last hurrah was a second-rate 1970s sitcom (Barnaby Jones) after a career mostly in the 1940s. By choosing to honor Ebsen (not inherently a bad thing), show management is showing that they are thinking more of the past rather than the future. Certainly, most numismatists today hardly remember Ebsen nor even care, just as they hardly cared about Steve Forbes and his obsolete extremist ideas. Further, numismatists in the non-American arena (an area that IMEX was originally supposed to be catering to) have zero interest in both.

So rather than a forward-thinking, new show, we see that show management is stuck in the long past. Why should we expect something "new and exciting" as hoped for in a city on the rise?

At least efforts are being made to enhance the show. Seems better than nothing at all.

I remember bidding in the Buddy Ebsen Sale by Superior back in 1987 and he certainly had some very nice coins!

"Barnaby Jones" was a one hour detective drama, not a sitcom. ;)

Also, although his movie career started in the 1930s, he was least active in the 1940s. He was active in the movies and then in television well into the 1980s, with a few appearances in the 1990s. :)

I think this is an interesting tribute to a passionate collector and actor. I appreciate the effort and hope the show is successful.

I remember he was on the old Andy Griffith show playing a hobo.
