1972 Topps Baseball Registry Set Break (The Nismo Collection -- #3 Current Finest)

Long time user here, it's just been awhile since I was active. Anyway I am the owner of "The Nismo Collection", the current #3 finest 1972 Topps Baseball Registry Set, which after 20+ years of collecting I've decided to let go. I thought I'd reach out to any of those interested as this is a massive set break and likely to fulfill many wants/needs whether for the entire set, specific players, teams, etc. The set contains online PSA 9s and 10s.

It is currently being auctioned via 4 Sharp Corners on eBay. The auctions will be broken up into 3rds -- with the first (and current) auction including cards from Series 1 and Series 2. The next round will be Series 3 and 4, and last will be Series 5 and 6. The first round is ongoing right now.

Lastly (for those putting 1972 set together), at the conclusion of the break, the last item offered will be a Pelican Case specifically built to house this set. I had a 3rd party manufacture and cut rows (one for each series) based on dimensions.

Thanks for reading and best of luck to all should you decide to participate.

Cheers,
Josh

Can I see a pic of the case you are talking about? So 1 case holds almost 800 PSA cards? Wow
Interested in seeing it and also good luck with your sales Ill be watching some.

Good luck with the sale. I'm just about to start a raw 72 set in nmmt. Let me know if you have some raw dupes lying around.

Thanks to everyone here for their well wishes. If you're following, the first round (Series 1 & 2) just closed last night and the 2nd round (Series 3 & 4) is well underway. Some big sales, but for those looking to improve their own sets, I can't tell you how many PSA 10s with sub 10 population went for surprisingly affordable numbers, especially given how "hot" this set has been in the last 2-3 years. Some pop 5s, 6s, went for $300 or under, which I couldn't believe. And for those who know me, or have seen the time I put into this set, there are scarcely any duds when it comes to poorly graded examples. Building this set for as many years as I did, I would very often end up with many multiples of 10s or 9s of the same player -- and always kept the best quality for the registry set (for me, centering was always king, so that usually would trump other attributes). Nothing I hated more than these beauties in a 9 or 10 with diamond cuts.

Wish I could help you. Perhaps 8-10 years ago I could -- not anymore unfortunately. My advice may be dated, but back when I was building mine, albeit with the intention of grading, I would frequently scour ebay or other sites for large lots of what appeared to be NM+ examples. Almost never bought complete or near-complete sets, as they always disappointed condition wise.

I believe I still have some raw cards left from my 72 set. Are you looking for specifics or bulk? Not sure how many nrmt cards I still have. LMK if interested

Absolutely. It is a Black Pelican 1640 "Protector" case. Bear in mind the case and custom inserts were purchased many years ago, before Pelican introduced their "Air' series, which theoretically could have shaved off some weight if one was large enough to make this whole setup work.

A key feature is the trolley handle and wheels, which are a huge plus considering the combination full set + case likely weighs upwards of 100 lbs.

    https://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/transport-case/protector/1640

It was purchased directly from Case Club empty (without the standard plick/pluck form) and built with Polyethylene Foam (rigid) using all requisite dimensions to create 8 rows to fit 100 cards in each except for the final row with 87. The dimensions of the case best supported a configuration containing 2 levels --- a lower level with 5 rows (500 cards) and then a lighter, upper level with 3 rows (287 cards). The upper level has inserts on each side, allowing you to pick it up and set it aside for accessing the lower level. It was incredibly well designed and functions quite well ergonomically.

Of note, the rows were given added length in the event one wanted to house a "Master" set or include additional cards.

Alas, here are photos taken right before it left my storage unit:

I should mention that despite how it may appear in the photos, there is absolutely no "give" between the foam and the interior borders of the case -- it is as snug a fit as you can possibly get without making it impossible to remove the levels. Everything is super well protected and when rolling (or moving) the case, there are absolutely no sounds, no movement within the case.

For those with a graded (or ungraded) 1972 or similarly large set -- this case would function remarkably well for storage, protection and showcasing.

    Hope this helps...

Best of luck to any of you bidding on the remaining portion of this set break and/or case (which should be listed at the conclusion of the break).

    Cheers,
    Josh

Thank you. Looking for a large starter lot in the 500 card range.
