The 1875-S Seated Liberty Half Dollar is a standout rarity and visual masterpiece within the Seated Liberty series, struck during the Reconstruction era. Although the original mintage was substantial at 3,200,000 coins, survival rates are exceptionally low, with only an estimated 3,000 examples remaining—just 0.094% of the original production. While available in lower grades, this date is exceedingly rare in Mint State and particularly at the Premium Gem MS66 level, with only 10 CAC-approved coins in MS66 and just 2 finer. This specimen, graded PCGS MS66 and CAC-approved, traces its pedigree to the "Col." Green-Newman Collection and represents the WB-101 variety, distinguished by its small mintmark. Its obverse showcases a mesmerizing palette of gold, deep orange, amber, and reddish-brown hues, accented by iridescent rainbow toning in shades of blue, green, and violet, particularly around Liberty’s head. Deeper coppery-russet tones fill recessed areas, such as Liberty’s gown folds, shield, and stars, add contrast and depth. The reverse complements the obverse with amber, golden-brown, and reddish-orange fields, while silver-gray luster highlights the eagle’s feathers and shield.
