MONSTER MASH
I found a decades-old Frankenstein movie poster boarded up at my job – it sold for $358,500 all because of the date
Authentic posters for the movie are notoriously hard to find

AN important, and valuable, piece of movie-making history was found in a boarded-up part of a theater and later sold for $358,500.
Frankenstein is one of, if not the most iconic horror movie.
A rare poster from the original Frankenstein movie sold for over $358,000.
It took the world by storm when it premiered in 1931, and ever since then, fans have been captivated by the mad scientist and the misunderstood monster.
Because of its popularity, it can be hard to believe that most of the original posters for this film have disappeared.
According to Heritage Auction House, there are only a handful of authentic, original posters have been found.
However, in the early 1970s the only known copy of one design, known as Style C, was uncovered in an old movie theater.
It featured Boris Karloff’s character and the tagline “The man who made a monster.”
The poster had long been hidden in a boarded-up projection booth.
It was evident that the theater had used the display multiple times for reissues of the film.
Despite some damage like holes and folds, it sold for $358,500 at auction.
It's fascinating, famous guitarist Kirk Hammett, of the heavy metal band Metallica, is a huge fan of classic horror and sci-fi movies and he has put together one of the world’s most extraordinary collections of movie posters. Let's take a little tour.
Fascinating, Kirk Hammett owns an original copy of that six-foot tall Frankenstein poster I was talking about earlier that sold for $358,500. I wonder if he was actually the buyer of that poster?
Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954), starring Ricou Browning as the "Gill-man." I remember watching this film for the first time and just being blown away at how eerie the whole thing was, when they discover the presence of the Gill-man in the Lagoon and the creature begins to stalk them. They can't see him under the water, trapped on the boat, forced to deal with this monster. Great film.
