I took it by a dealer today and they shot it with the xrf gun. It came back as the same gold content as the other gold coins from that period i had with me to sell from the same collection.
They've offered to buy it for the gold scrap value and deface it and send it to the smelter. At least that way no one else down the road will get stuck with a fake.
I need to check with the owner and see what they want to do with it. Thank you everyone for the input.

Looks like the maker was trying to recreate die markers
Possible Omega... he paid fairly close attention to detail
When a counterfeiter creates a false die, he uses a genuine coin as a model to create a transfer die. Any markers on the genuine model coin will automatically be transferred to the false die used to produce the counterfeit coins.
Vast majority. yes. but not always the case. Some- granted not many, but some- create their own. Often with really poor results, but...

The problem with helping to evaluate is not being able to evaluate.
The ability to help evaluate includes knowing who to go to for answers that you and especially the client wouldn't know.
As a fire inspector people call me all the time with questions. But I dont know everything. But I do know who or where to go to find the answer.
Right. And when it comes down to expertise , here we are: unable to effectively evaluate. But it is a good discussion and a lot of critical analysis. It is why I made this comment.
