David Hall’s Book: A Mercenary’s Guide to the Rare Coin Market…

This one:
Has anyone here read this? And what do you think of it?
I bought this copy a few years ago and lately I’ve been wanting to carve out some time to start reading it…
I’ve always found the late 80s in the coin market to be an interesting era with regards to the grading companies starting up and all of that…
It’s also around the time that I started messing with coins as a kid, I was 10 or 11 when this book came out so that era is nostalgic to me anyway.
I would be interested to hear what people think of this.

I have one and skimmed over it a while back. It read like one big date/mm analysis. I expected to see more investing tips, and the investment recommendations I did see were based on past trends (e.g. "buy MS65 Morgans because they went up the most in the last 10 years")

I read it several years ago. I remember it being interesting, but the analysis of the market was so different at the time. I almost bought a copy recently to re read but decided against it.

I read it ages ago when it came out. Still have it. The cover is the best.
LOL. That's pretty funny.
God comes first in everything I do. I’m dedicated to serving Him with my whole life. Coin collecting is just a hobby—but even in that, I seek to honor Him. ✝️
It influenced me to prefer investment grade material MS64 or higher. Yes still have my copy. Fantastic read, super cover has ignited many (including myself) into RCI.
The book came out in 1987, and during that time there were a lot of books published promoting coins as an alternative investment.
Today it appears the general belief is coins, along with many other collectibles, are more of a hobby than an investment. However, some will argue recent years have shown profitable returns; especially with bullion related coins.
This book is pretty much a textbook example of all that i hate about coin collecting. I tend to care about things nobody else seems to care about so being out of step doesn't particularly bother me. I just would prefer it if coin collecting was NOT constantly being spun as a get rich quick scam. James
