A different type of Die Cap
Pretty neat pair of actual Lincoln Cent Die Caps - From a Proof Die no less!
Not sure about the reverse cap being from a proof die though?
I think the liquid drops inside of the caps are some sort of oil - I have owned these for many years stored inside of a plastic quarter tube.

how the heck? how would you ever encapsulate them?

Proof dies would be dipped into liquid plastic. That's why the reverse cap appears to have a long drip on it. When cooled they would protect the die until it was ready to use. They are cool items to have.
This is a plastic ‘cap cover’
to protect the die.
