Grades in

Grades are in for one of my submissions. Now I know many are going to be thinking why would I submit these? I started my Only 58's registry set many years ago. More than twenty now. It's taken that long to get where I am today because Washington AU58's from about 1954 to 1963 on are few and far between. So recently I decided to send some AU58's in that I cracked out of other TPG holders. Both of the below came out of AU58 holders. Go figure, one comes back in an MS64 holder.

The 57 came out of an ANACS holder, the 59D came out of an older NGC holder. I went back and looked at the original ebay listing and the 59D is a nice coin but I didn't think it would come back in a 64 holder.

Here is a link to the listing.

To each his own. I guess that AU58 is called a "poorman's grade"? I once bought a AU58 1932-S washington quarter to break out and put in my album.

Then what's Fair-2? A moron's grade? No doubt I've made some real moronic purchases.

I like to think this coin isn't one of them, though. At least that's what I tell myself. I'm submitting this 72-S to CACG at Summer FUN. True moronic behavior would be to submit it to PCGS after being disappointed by TrueViews so often.

It's amusing to see I'm not the only one who has trouble separating sliders from MS coins. In these cases, I was looking for AU58s much like you are. They're further evidence of my moronic tendencies (I've since learned that the graders were correct - these show rub, but no color change or luster breaks). I didn't learn that until I was 67 because I'm a moron.

On several of my coins, I only wish I had a nice looking ‘58’😳😂

From my experience, I believe sending a coin in the holder has a better chance of coming back graded the same.

Imagine if you sent that NGC 1959-D WQ to CAC for a sticker instead of PCGS? If CAC saw the coin in a similar manner to how PCGS sees it then you would have a several hundred dollar profit! Interesting how this industry works.
