2025 Eagle Privy - Two Different Styles...Strong vs Weak Strike, or Something Else? [PICS]

Was comparing two different batches of 2025 ASEs w/ Eagle Privy...and one batch looked quite different. One had the sharp feathers as seen in promotional images, and one had no feather lines at all, just kinda blobby, lacking any feather detail.

So, what do you all think?

Weak strike? Worn die? Something else? I did not notice any other strike differences on the obverses, but photos are included below (all sharp privy coin on left, blob privy coin on right).

The security strips are in slightly different places, with ~1 reed between the strip and the I of LIBERTY on the sharp, and ~3 reed on the blob (unsure of security strip variances/tolerances).

I would think normal wear and tear on the dies.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

Interesting. I would think that the mint would have noticed this by now.

I have four, they are all "sharp privy" with security strip matching your photo on the right- not too close to the I , which I think you described as the "blob privy" coin... That "blob privy" looks suspect to me. I suppose it could be worn dies.

i'm focused on the different missing reeds. that'd be a more important coin variety

If the reeds aren not aligned, wouldn't that represent counterfeit?

If you use the "I" in Liberty and count how many reeds are showing to the left before the missing reed section. OP's examples show one reed and the other shows three. Here are two examples in NGC holders that I found on Ebay of actual coins, not the cartoon generic stock pics, that show one with several reeds and one with two.

assuming the mint did not screw it up, then yes

if more of these are found from reputable sellers -and especially holdered by an ap like apmex- they could be called a variety

When looking at the two eagles side by side, check the eagle's right wing tip area (our left when looking at the coin). Seems quite a difference in the feathers. whether due to wear, or weak punch, or whatever... just seems different. Almost looks like the eagle is making a certain 'hand gesture'!

Assuming it is not counterfeit... looks like it could be a legitimate variation / variety to watch for.

@LJenkins11 , good sleuthing, looks like there is decent variance in the location of the edge notch.

@MsMorrisine , the sharp privy came directly from US Mint tubes (by way of HA), the blobby privy came from Bullion Exchange, I believe (presumably also directly from US Mint tubes).

Hi folks. I just wanted to report in that I received 4 of the eagle privy coins this week from APMEX in the mint direct packaging. Three of the four coins have the missing reed notch 3 reeds away from the edge of "I" in LIBERTY. The fourth coin however has this missing reed notch 6 reeds away from the "I". So there is definitely some variation happening . All of my coins have a sharp eagle privy (no blob)
